Even on days when I do not have time to cook, we would just heat up something from the freezer and play at least for 10 mins. There is a lot of laugh, happiness, connecting moments with our children, and the feeling manifests in the whole family.
If you are looking for pretend play ideas, you have come to the right place and you are going to love this.
The only rule in all our pretend play is “Nobody dies”. My son is only 4 and in his wild world, everybody lives forever. We have done a lot of adventures and some of the big hits for our pretend play :
Coral reef: Sharks are the protectors of the coral reef. They make sure nobody eats nobody and everyone eats only from their refrigerators.
Snorkeling: We take a helicopter to the ocean, then hop on the ship and after that we jump in the ocean for some deep ocean diving experience. Then my son magically becomes a thrasher shark in the ocean and chased me until I got scared and helped me go back to the ship. Sometimes we just go down in a submarine and watch the fishes.
Flying to Asia: We purchased tickets and we made a phone call to a friend in Asia, told him that we are flying tomorrow, and we would meet him there. We packed our bags with dinosaur excavation tools, some clothes and my son drove us to the airport. My son was the pilot and we flew to Asia, did some excavation, displayed dinosaur bones in the museum and invited the local kids for a tour. We put the dinosaur bones some skin and they came alive and took them for a walk on the Great Wall of China. In the night they go back to the museum and sleep.

Dinosaur land– The biggest and mightiest vegetarians protect their young ones from the meat-eaters. Some of them can magically pull the young ones from even the tummies of the meat-eaters even after they have been eaten.
Car race: we gather all motor vehicles for a race car event and this is like a festival for my son
Cooking and serving meal: I think this does not need any briefing.
Going to space: travel to all planets in the solar system and send robots to their satellites to collect some rocks and dirt. This is an exercise to learn about our solar system and some fun facts like Earth 1 moon, mars 2 moon, Jupiter 79, Saturn 62, Uranus 27, Neptune 14, etc.,.
Going to the Doctor: This does not need any briefing either.
Go to the museum/zoo with family: You know your museum or zoo visit story, relive the moments without leaving the house. This creates as much excitement as the real visit does without all the trouble involved in actual visits.
